A leak that's actively running — under a sink, behind a toilet, or from a visibly damaged pipe — should be addressed immediately. Water damage compounds quickly the longer it continues, affecting flooring, drywall and, in some cases, electrical systems below or near the leak.
A burst pipe, often following a hard freeze, can release a large volume of water quickly. Shutting off the main water supply is the priority; the source of the break can be repaired once the water is off and the area is safe to work in.
Water or waste backing up into a tub, shower drain or floor drain is a sign the main sewer line is blocked or has failed. Stop using water in the house until the line is cleared, since running more water can make the backup worse.
A water heater tank leaking at the base or from a fitting can escalate from a slow drip to a larger leak. Shutting off the water supply to the tank, and the gas or power to the unit if you can safely reach it, limits damage until a technician arrives.
A sudden loss of water throughout the house can point to a main line break, a failed pressure regulator, or in some cases a municipal supply issue. We can help determine which applies over the phone before a technician arrives.
For an active leak or burst pipe, shut off the water at the main valve if you're able to safely reach it. Move any belongings away from the affected area if it's safe to do so. Avoid attempting repairs on pressurized lines or gas connections yourself — that's what we're for.
